A Couple of Tips
January 21st, 20061. It used to be a good idea to turn your computer off when you weren’t using it.
Now it’s a great idea.
Your computer is vulnerable to attack every moment it’s on. It cannot get a infected when it is turned off. Reduce your vulnerability, and increase the life of your hard drive. Turn your computer off when you’re not using it.
2. Wireless technology has gotten really good. The newest generation of hardware is much more capable of reaching into that corner of your basement or up into the attic. As I always say though, Networking is not for civilians, and this new technology is no exception. If your wireless works well into the den but only sort-of well into the kitchen, give me a call.
3. Is your computer getting slower and slower? Don’t live with it. Don’t wait for it to get worse. Call me now. A badly infected system is much more expensive to fix than a system that is only a little infected. It’s like fixing your car’s brakes. If you wait too long the brake pads wear out all the way to the rotors; a very much more expensive job than just the brakes. You know you’re going to have to get it fixed anyway. Save yourself some money and call sooner rather than later.
4. A prediction: If gas prices keep going up, and/or if the government gets serious about reducing CO2 emissions, we’re all going to have to commute less and communicate more. Your Internet connection and your personal computer will replace at least part of your driving.
