Vista Upgrades

I Have to Take Back Something I Wrote Earlier (sort of)

Two Nerd’s Words ago I said upgrading Vista to Windows 7 was “ugly” and advised you not to do it.

It was.

But things have changed. The upgrade process is better now.

The way it now stands is this: If you want to upgrade your Windows Vista computer to Windows 7, it will almost always work just fine. And if you run into a problem in the process, there are fixes. The problems you might run into have been isolated.

Doesn’t sound very encouraging, does it? But it’s better than it was.

I have run into a number of people who are anxious to get away from Vista and onto Windows 7. Windows 7 is a real improvement over Vista but I have told all of them to wait it out with Vista and Get Windows 7 On Your Next Computer.

For those of you who can’t wait to get away from Vista,
1. Run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor. If it says “OK,”
2. Buy yourself an upgrade copy of Windows 7, and
3. Install it.

It will probably be fine.

Am I going to upgrade the Vista machine in our house? Not a chance.
